Am reading this for the second time today so that I can listen to the sound clips and have an even richer experience. This really is such a beautiful piece, all the family voices coming together in writing just as the prayers and singing come together in the birchas hamazon. A joy to read. Thank you!

What a delicious and informative piece of writing. And lovely singing. Is the synagogue mentioned the beautiful Sephardi shul that is now part of Manchester's Jewish Museum? And at the risk of starting a broigus, the Jews were never held in slavery en masse in Egypt. There is no archaeological evidence for it whatsoever. There is evidence on the Merneptah stele of the Egyptians defeating a tribe which might be Israel in 1200BCE and they may have taken slaves away, as conquerors did.

What an exquisite & joyful work of art Aaron and I love the way you have woven the generations together. It brought tears to my eyes, remembering the shabbats and Passovers with my late grandparents whose Hebrew was far better than mine. I am going to circulate it among my family & especially my non Jewish boyfriend and my daughter-in-law to be to give them a very special insight into what it is to be part of an ever evolving Jewish family united by food and especially chicken soup.
